Denmark opens EU’s first large CO₂ storage site
Sept 18 — Denmark today brought into commercial operation the Greensand project, the European Union’s first full-scale facility for permanent CO₂ storage beneath the seabed in a depleted North Sea oilfield. Led by INEOS Energy with Harbour Energy and Nordsøfonden, the site will initially store up to 400,000 tonnes of CO₂ a year, with plans to scale to 4-8 million tonnes annually by 2030.
