Suspension of nearly 10.2 mtpa of Qatari LNG supply to Asia is forcing utility buyers to switch to coal, with an additional 150 million tonnes of consumption projected through 2030, roughly half of which in 2026 alone. The driver is a supply gap, not green policies, RystadEnergy said, anticipating an LNG shortfall of 35 million […]

Eskom has entered an LNG supply agreement with Zululand Energy Terminal (ZET) to underpin its planned 3,000 MW gas-to-power project in Richards Bay, South Africa. A worsening fuel supply crunch is hitting Asian economies. India has so far relied on subsidies to protect its 1.4 billion population, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi also urged citizens to reduced fuel consumption by travelling less, lower fertilizer use in farming and to use less electricity. Governments face mounting pressure to contain the fallout. […]

Petroleum, not LNG, accounts for most of the United States’ energy trade, reaching a 31 quadrillion British thermal units (quads) in 2025, followed by gas with 9 quads, according to U.S. government data. Yet natural gas is the faster growing export, with sales quadrupling over the past decade due to booming shale gas and expanded […]

Equinor has warned Europe’s gas market could become “critical” if the Strait of Hormuz stays closed to shipping for another months, jeopardising gas-fired power generation because the continent’s storage levels are exceptionally weak. Gas caverns and storage tanks across Europe are currently just above 35% full, way below a seasonal norm of around 50%, according […]

North American Electric Reliability Corp.’s (NERC) latest assessment overstates the risk facing the US power grid by assuming too much new data centre load and too little regional power flows, making resource margins appear artificially tight. Consultants at Grid Strategies said NERC’s 2025 Long-Term Reliability Assessment is “too pessimistic,” arguing that the grid watchdog’s demand […]

Strike threats at Inpex-operated Ichthys LNG from May 27 have put Japan’s power sector at the center of a fresh supply-risk story, given the country’s heavy dependence on contracted Australian LNG and limited spot flexibility. Around 70% of output from the 9.3 million tonnes per annum Ichthys project in Darwin is sold to Japanese buyers, […]

Iraq’s power sector remains vulnerable to fluctuations in Iranian gas supplies, prompting Baghdad to press ahead with plans to import LNG through the country’s first floating terminal, developed by Excelerate Energy. Iranian gas exports to Iraq are continuing, but at volumes well below Iraq’s needs. Iraqi officials said supplies resumed in February at about 7 […]
