Falling gas prices have substantially improved the economics of coal-to-gas switching, the International Energy Agency (IEA) finds. Still, nearly 130 Gigawatts (GW) of coal-fired capacity was under construction at the start of 2020, and a further 500 GW in a planning phase but may now be at risk.
