Electricity produced from natural gas in the US is forecast to fall by 8% in 2021, as utilities shift to cheaper thermal coal. Government analysts say the average gas price for power generation will surge 41% to $3.35 per MMBtu over the course of this year, while coal prices will rise just 6%.
