Benchmark European gas prices surged and are forecast to stay high well into 2022 after the German energy regulator (BNetzA) suspended the certification procedure for Nord Stream 2. The watchdog said the process was halted because the Swiss-based consortium behind the Gazprom-led pipeline first needs to set up a German subsidiary to secure an operating license.
