Arctic chill spreads from the U.S. Midwest to the East Coast, propelling up prices for gas and electricity as power producers scramble to meet rising demand. Natural gas prices for next-day delivery on the Transco pipeline into New York reached records of $90/MMBtu on the ICE Futures exchange while day-ahead electricity prices jumped to more than $255/MWh in both New England and NYC.
