For the first time since March last year gas-fired power generation accounts for a higher share of the UK energy mix than coal, National Grid data shows. On June 7, the output of UK gas power plants reached 10.7 GW and has since risen to a high of 16.5 GW on June 10, accounting for 45% of the total power mix, as the font-month gas price fell to its lowest level since August 2010.
