South Africa’s largest utility Eskom plans to switch its open cycle diesel power plants to run on natural gas in a bid to save on diesel costs that topped $1 billion last year. The state-owned utility will initially focus on switching over plants in the Western Cape that generated 3,621 GWh in 2013.
