Struggling to compete amid falling U.S. gas and power prices, American Electric Power (AEP) has called on Goldman Sachs to advise on the sale of its 7,923 MW merchant power generation business. The portfolio includes a three gas plants and several coal facilities and is estimated to fetch between $2.8 billion to $3.6 billion, according to industry sources.
