Additions of electricity generating capacity in the U.S. last year were dominated by gas-fired power plants which accounted for just over half of newly commissioned plants, equivalent to 7,902 MW. New wind and solar installation added a further 7,055 MW, data from analysis firm SNL Financial shows.
