Coal most used power source in 18 U.S. states, natural gas in 16

Fossil fuels remain the dominant source of electricity in most of the United States. Coal provided the largest generation share in 18 states last year, down from 28 states in 2007. The share of gas power, meanwhile, has increased from 11 to 16 states over the same period, according to EIA findings.
