The Australian government has agreed to support a second Bass Straight interconnector – the 1.2 GW Project Marlin – with up to A$65 million ($40m). The funding was granted based on a feasibility study by TasNetworks which shows the power cable, set to deliver renewable power from Tasmania to Victoria, is both technically feasible and economically viable.
