US manufacturer Capstone Turbine Corporation will supply six turbines for shale gas treatment facilities of an undisclosed producer at its gas pipeline in West Virginia. Jim Crouse, Capstone's executive vice president, said "We normally provide turbines to power site load at the wellhead for processing equipment and treatment equipment."
American power producer NRG Energy has started commercial operation of its repowered 550MW El Segundo Energy Center only weeks before the launch of the adjacent 392 MW Ivanpah Solar Power Facility. The repowering stepped up the capacity of the combined-cycle gas turbine plant by 158MW, and equipped it with new turbines to support renewable energy integration.
US utility Dominion Virginia Power has received the regulatory green light to build the mega-sized Brunswick Power Station (1,358MW) at a cost of $1.3 billion in Lawrenceville, Virginia. Construction of the combined-cycle plant is slated start in mid-September, for commercial operation to commence in summer 2016, it told Gas to Power Journal.
Duke Energy Florida has filed a revised settlement agreement with the Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) comprising provisions related to the Crystal River 3 nuclear plant (CR3), the proposed Levy nuclear project, the Crystal River 1 and 2 coal units, and future gas-fired generation needs in Florida.
Designated Siemens CEO Kaeser has disclosed the 2014 profit margin target might be lowered from 12% to 10%. "Whether a 2-digit margin is achievable, depends on the competition ... but what is important is that we reduce the profitability gap between us and the competition," he said in a press conference in Munich late Wednesday.
