EDF and GE Energy signed a deal today to jointly build 510 MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) at EDF's Bouchain site in the north of France, the companies announced today. Operational start of the plant is scheduled for 2015. The gas-to-power plant will replace a coal-fired unit due to be phased out by that date.
Statkraft has started an analysis of its entire gas-fired power generation portfolio, the head of the Norwegian company, Christian Rynning-Tønnesen said today. He did not disclose whether the company has plans to shut-down or sell-off power plant units in the near future, according to local media reports.
General Electric (GE), the US-based engineering company, has signed contracts totalling nearly $300m with the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) to expand six power plants in Saudi Arabia. Siemens has won an order to supply a natural gas-fired Tuaspring combined-cycle power plant (CCPP) in north-western Singapore to Hydrochem Ltd, a subsidiary of Hyflux. Speaking on site, Jaeger gave an updated on the progress of the Denizil natural gas combined cycle power plant (CCGT) and said the construction was "on schedule".
Shell confirmed today it signed a final agreement to form a joint venture (JV) in Iraq with Basrah Gas Company to gather raw gas from three major oil fields. The gas production from these field (Rumaila, Zubair and West Qurna 1) is currently flared in Basrah, a Shell spokesperson told 'Gas-to-Power Journal' today.
Matteo de Zan, head of Enel's industrial development, generation and energy management division said the operational start-up of a gas-fired power plant in Belgium is expected in early 2012. "We are waiting for the plant to start operations in the coming months; the plant is currently in its commissioning stage," he told 'Gas-to-Power Journal' in an interview.
