Advanced Power, a developer and project financier of independent power plants, said today it will close its Hamburg office following the decision cease the development of its 1,200 MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant project in Wustermark, Germany. The development of a gas-fired power plant project in Bocholt will be managed from London.
Bangladesh's independent power producer Summit Power Ltd. has signed several deals with General Electric (GE) and China National Electric Engineering Co. (CNEEC) to build a 335 MW dual-fuel power plant near the capital Dhaka. The plant will run on natural gas as well as on oil, the operator Summit Power said.
Toshiba JSW Turbine and Generator Pvt., a Toshiba Group company based in Chennai, India, has won a contract worth US$470 million to supply of three 800 MW supercritical steam turbine and generator island packages to NTPC, India's largest state-owned energy service provider. Delivery of the equipment will start in 2013, Toshiba JSW said today.
Capston Turbine Corporation, a clean technology manufacturer, has ventured into the Asian-Pacific market with the sale of its first microturbine in the Philippines. Capstone said its Asian-Pacific distributor, Sobono Energy, secured the order and will supply and commission the C800 Power Package this spring.
Inter RAO UES, a Russian state-run power generator and exporter, and the Germany utility RWE are holding talks over establishing a joint venture power plant company. The JV would oversee the operation of existing and new coal- and gas-fired power stations in Germany, the Benelux countries and the UK.
Statkraft today said it will not replace a gas-fired power plant in Emden, north-west Germany. "By mothballing the plant and reducing the staff, combined with the completion of Knapsack II, Statkraft will achieve a more competitive gas power portfolio in Germany," Statkraft CEO, Christian Rynning-Tønnesen, said.
