National Grid Electricity Transmission and the UK Met Office have embarked on a weather data project to expand the grid capacity for wind and solar power. The £545,000 project, funded by energy regulator Ofgem, uses high specification weather forecasts to increase the free capacity on overhead power lines, allowing for higher feed-in of renewable energy.
