Societe Generale analysts suggest a minimum 16 bcm/y one line Turkish Stream […]

Cheap and abundant global coal reserves make it the fossil fuel of choice worldwide, regardless of its carbon footprint. In the US, by contrast, gas power capacity is on the rise and has produced 4% more power output, or 92,516 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in April, compared with 88,835 GWh of coal-fired generation, according to EIA figures.

Analysis by Eclipse Energy suggests that European gas prices are likely to fall in the 2016-20 period to a level below that at which U.S. LNG exporters can make a profit. Though the U.S. will be able to export close to 100 billion cubic metres per annum (bcm/a) of LNG by the end of the […]

Gradual liberalisation of Japan’s electricity sales since 1995 has incentivised businesses from various sectors to generate onsite power and sell excess electricity to the grid or to large-scale users. This decentralised form of generation has already reached a market share of 3 million kilowatts of electricity — equivalent to the output of three nuclear power […]

At least 80% of total U.S. energy consumption has come from three fossil fuel sources – petroleum, natural gas, and coal – for more than 100 years. The surge in domestic production of shale oil and gas has prompted a shift from coal to gas as the preferred fuel for power generation, EIA analysis finds.

TTF gas prices rise after Trump rejects Hormuz deal

Sept 28 – European gas prices at the Dutch TTF rose nearly 2.5% on Monday after US President Donald Trump rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, raising fears that disruptions to Middle East LNG shipments could persist into the winter. The bullishness at Europe’s benchmark gas trading hub is exacerbated by fear of gas shortages, given that gas storages are just under 70% full in key gas consuming markets such as Germany. The Dutch TTF front-month Oct26 contract was last seen trading at €74.05 per Megawatt-hour, while the Brent contract for November delivery was last seen changing hands at $108.08 per barrel.
