Energy-related CO2 emissions in the United States will drop 25% to 38% below 2005-levels by 2030, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said in its latest Annual Energy Outlook. Implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) cuts emissions by 33% by the end of the decade in the Reference case, compared to a 26% reduction […]

Global LNG prices have fallen to below $14/MMBtu in early 2023, down from record averages of $40/MMBtu last year, prompting coal-to-gas switching in the European power generation and industrial sectors. But for key markets in Asia to react, Wood Mackenzie reckons prices would need to fall below $12/MMBtu before any meaningful oil-to-gas switching occurs.

The Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store has pledged his country will maintain higher gas exports to its European neighbours for the next five years. Norway helped Europe replace Russian gas supplies by increasing exports by 8% last year, equivalent of 100 TWh, and the Nordic country is also working with the EU on green […]

India’s Reliance Industries and its partner BP Exploration will re-launch an auction for the sale of 6 million cubic meters per day of natural gas from their offshore KG-D6 block, having incorporated the government’s new rules to prioritise city gas companies. Industry experts have urged the Chinese government to modernise the power grid to be able to absorb between 95 and 120 gigawatt (GW) of new solar power installations this year, a record rise in annual capacity additions. Flexible gas-fired power plants and energy storage are also needed to balance rising volumes of fluctuating power supply.

With spot LNG prices in Asia trending lower since the start of the year, Chinese buyers are returning to short-term markets and imports are anticipated to rise to 5.39 million tons in March, up from 4.96 million tons in February. But a slowdown in China’s efforts to switch from coal to gas in the power […]

Gas consumption in the United States reached a new record of 88.5 Bcf/d in 2022 as retirements of coal-fired power stations, lower than average coal stocks and high prices increased the dispatch of gas-fired plants. According to government statistics, the power sector consumed more gas than any other sector, accounting for 38% of gas use.

To help end load-shedding in South Africa, state-owned oil firm PetroSA wants to build a new 180 MW power station in just 18 to 24 months. The plant will run on tail gas – leftover residue from a gas-to liquid complex at Mossel Bay, where PetroSA claims it can produce enough gas to fuel the […]

TTF gas prices rise after Trump rejects Hormuz deal

Sept 28 – European gas prices at the Dutch TTF rose nearly 2.5% on Monday after US President Donald Trump rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, raising fears that disruptions to Middle East LNG shipments could persist into the winter. The bullishness at Europe’s benchmark gas trading hub is exacerbated by fear of gas shortages, given that gas storages are just under 70% full in key gas consuming markets such as Germany. The Dutch TTF front-month Oct26 contract was last seen trading at €74.05 per Megawatt-hour, while the Brent contract for November delivery was last seen changing hands at $108.08 per barrel.

ProPetro to commit 230 MW to Targa

Sept 25 – ProPetro Holding, has committed to supply 230 MW of behind-the-meter power to support Targa’s natural gas processing infrastructure in the Permian Basin. The new units bring the total contracted capacity to 510 MW, with full deployment expected in early 2028.

Fitch ups INNIO’s credit rating

Sept 24 – Fitch Ratings has upgraded the credit rating of INNIO to BB from B+, with a stable outlook, following a recent upgrade by Moody’s. Analyst said these upgrades reflect INNIO’s strong operating performance and cash flow generation, supported by a growing installed base for power gen assets that helps underpin service revenues.

Emerson builds automation service center in Qatar

Sept 23 – Emerson today announced plans to build its first certified flow calibration lab and an associated automation solution service center in Qatar’s Umm Alhoul Free Zone. The new substation is part of National Grid’s Brinsworth-to-Chesterfield and Chesterfield-to-High Marnham project, with the upgrade using SF₆-free technology to strengthen grid resilience across England and Wales in generations.

Singapore’s energy security hinges on LNG

Sept 14 – Singapore’s experience in the Middle East crisis highlights the country’s exposure to external energy supply shocks. Over 95% of Singapore’s electricity generation is fuelled by imported LNG, hence diversification is paramount for supply security, said Gan Siow Huang, Singapore’s minister of trade and industry. Singapore is hence developing a second LNG terminal with a view to increasing import capacity to 15 mtpa by 2030.

AI-linked power projects double in US
